How does it work?
All that's explained on this page.
Why can't I hear anything when I'm using IE7?
Click here for advice. The issue is with IE7, but the fix is to change something inceide Icecast2. Until the next version fixes the problem you will have to patch the source code for your Icecast2 server and recompile it.
When is the pro-ICE version going to be available?
We aim to have it in our catalog by the end of August 2007. We've been delayed by problems with two browsers - the IE7 bug mentioned above and a memory overflow bug in the beta version of Safari for Windows. While both these are certainly not our fault, we've been waiting for our partners at Apple and Microsoft to decide on a course of action before altering the Minicaster code, as anything temporary we introduce could be defeated by the 'fix' applied to the browser itself.
Why doesn't station XXXX work?
There will be four possible reasons:-
  1. The server may no tbe sending MP3 audio - Flash cannot understand OGG streams or strange encoding of MP3. Some of the live streams for voice-based stations, like those transmitting emergency services radio, are encoded with such a low setting that Flash cannot play them back at normal speed - the result is a high-pitched squeak and lots of pauses.
  2. The station may of course be offline completely, or at maximum capacity.
  3. A Shoutcast station without a folder in the URL refuses to permit connections from Minicaster. To test this, try opening the station URL in your browser directly. If you see a status page, then Minicaster cannot play that stream.
  4. You may have encountered the bug in Icecast that blocks connections from IE7 - see the link above for information.
Can I buy the source code for the free version?
Not right now - but it will be made available at the same time as the pro-ICE version.
How much will they be?
The free version (without the source code) wil of course be free. The pro-ICE package including source code will be around $20, and the free version with source code will be around $10. We can't be completely accurate until they appear!
